From BukSU to ASEAN: Hackathon Journey with ClinIQ AI

The Opening

In April 2026, Bukidnon State University officially became an Institutional Hub for the ASEAN P2A Hackathon 2026 — an international platform bringing together student innovators, mentors, and a shared vision of creating impactful AI solutions across the region.

The opening program kicked off a four-month journey with four competing BukSU teams, each taking on one challenge track:

  1. BukSU EduMind — AI for Education
  2. BukSU ResiliEarth — Climate Change Resilience
  3. BukSU HealthBridge — Public Health and Telemedicine
  4. BukSU UrbanSync — Smart City

I was proud to be part of it. See the official opening program post from BukSU's Information Technology Department.

My Team: BukSU HealthBridge

I joined BukSU HealthBridge under the Public Health and Telemedicine track. Our goal: build an AI solution that genuinely improves access to preventive healthcare in underserved ASEAN communities.

  • Team Leader: Pausal, John Paul Emmanuel G.
  • Members: Simene, Carlitos Mari P.; Alistair M. Ybañez; Maurel, Lawrence Joel; Agbayani, Celeste May P.
  • Mentor: Mr. Giovanni Jan N. Sanchez

ClinIQ AI

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in ASEAN, with over 2.6 million deaths every year. Most cases are preventable through early risk identification and lifestyle changes — yet many people only discover their risk when symptoms appear. Traditional risk assessment requires clinical visits and complex calculations, creating real barriers to preventive care.

We built ClinIQ AI to solve that.

ClinIQ AI is a mobile-first cardiovascular risk prevention system that democratizes CVD risk assessment across ASEAN populations. Using machine learning trained on established cardiovascular datasets, the app analyzes user-provided health data — blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, lifestyle factors, and family history — to classify individuals into three evidence-based risk categories:

  • Minimal Risk
  • Moderate Risk
  • Elevated Risk

Beyond prediction, ClinIQ AI delivers culturally-adapted, personalized prevention recommendations: dietary modifications, physical activity plans, and lifestyle interventions tailored to ASEAN contexts. It empowers individuals to take proactive control of their cardiovascular health through accessible, AI-driven risk assessment and prevention guidance.

My Role

I served as the main programmer of the team. From the model training pipeline to the mobile app experience, I owned the engineering behind ClinIQ AI — turning a public health problem into a working, user-friendly product.

Representing BukSU on an international stage like the ASEAN P2A Hackathon was an incredible experience. It pushed me to apply everything I've learned about AI, software engineering, and building products with real-world impact.

The AI Sports Master Cup

Before P2A, I also competed in the AI Sports Master Cup — a virtual AI competition organized and hosted by MiceNeurol on March 27, 2025. Five BukSU teams, each with two members, showcased their problem-solving skills, creativity, and technical expertise in using AI. Guided by our coach Mr. Raul Lecaros and coordinated by Dr. Rozanne Tuesday G. Flores, our teams received mentoring and won a few challenges.

It was a great warm-up for the bigger stage — and another chance to sharpen my AI skills against teams across the country. Check out the official announcement post from the BukSU College of Technologies — Student Body Organization.
